"Pretty cool moment: this week, I joined @DOTMARAD and @MMP_Union in presenting the Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal to Captain Mecurio and the crew aboard the Alliance Fairfax, which was one of the first U.S.-flagged merchant vessels to safely clear the Strait of Hormuz after being stranded for months. Their operation is just another reminder why we must invest in our shipbuilding and maritime industries so our seamen can continue their crucial work for our economy and our nation. As the granddaughter of a proud merchant marine and Seafarer, I know firsthand and am personally grateful for the critical, dangerous, and unsung work of the captains and crew behind our nation’s merchant vessels."

On Sunday, #TeamElfreth joined the unveiling of the Maryland State House’s newest monument, “The Pursuit of Transcendent Liberty,” which honors the legacy of these Black patriots whose service was integral to our country’s very existence. During my time in the State Senate, I was proud to work with then-Speaker Adrienne Jones and my colleagues to secure funding for this crucial project to live on the State House grounds. Especially on the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, I’m grateful for artist Branly Cadet and the state and local partners who brought their stories to light to ensure their sacrifices and the values they fought for are preserved for generations to come."
