Gunman kills 1, wounds multiple people at Spirit Halloween store in California mall

What This is

• A shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, left one person dead and six others wounded.
• Police identified the person killed as 31-year-old Constance Hages, who was pregnant.
• Police said seven people were hit by gunfire, and at least three of the wounded were reported in critical condition at hospitals.
• Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 8:30 p.m. Friday and treated the store and mall as an active crime scene.
• Investigators said no suspect had been arrested, and detectives were interviewing witnesses and seeking video to identify the shooter or shooters.
• The FBI’s Sacramento office sent an evidence response team to assist Fairfield police at the scene.

Why This Matters

• A fatal shooting in a busy mall underscores how quickly everyday public spaces can turn dangerous.
• The lack of an arrest keeps pressure on police to secure video and witness accounts before memories fade and evidence is lost.
• When victims include a pregnant woman and teens, the trauma can spread beyond those injured to families, coworkers, and a whole community.
